Disney Parks Churro Recipe

Hey! I wrote a cookbook! If you love my Disney Parks recipes, check out the link here for The Unofficial Disney Parks Cookbook that I wrote! Available for pre-order NOW!

Churros are like a right of passage at Disney Parks — they have become akin to riding Space Mountain and taking a picture in front of the Castle.   I mean, if you didn’t eat a churro, did you really go to Disney?

I have tried many a churro recipe, and have created this one to be closest to what you would get at a Disney Park.

What is a churro you ask?  It is a Mexican treat of fried dough rolled in cinnamon sugar.  If you haven’t had one, I command you to make these today.

Churro ingredients are stuff you probably already have around  your house — check out the ingredients list below!

Instructions
  1. Use your favorite pot (mine is a short and wide dutch oven) and add 1 cup water, 3 tablespoons sugar, 1/2 teaspoon salt, and 3 tablespoons vegetable oil to the pot. Stir until it boils and remove from heat.
  2. Add the 1 cup of flour and stir until all combined.
  3. Put the dough into a large piping bag with the largest star tip you can find. The key is to have deep grooves for a crispy exterior and more surface area to hold the cinnamon-sugar. If the dough is having a hard time coming out of the tip, only fill the bag with half the dough at a time.
  4. The dough will still be quite hot, so don't burn yourself! Start piping once you can hold the bag comfortably.
  5. Pipe long lengths of dough onto a cookie sheet. Make the dough strips almost the same size as the pan you will be frying them in. If you make them too long, they won't fit!
  6. Place the tray of piped dough into the freezer. This step is important if you want nice and straight Churros, like they have at a Disney Park.
  7. While they are chilling, heat your oil in a pan on the stove (or in a deep fryer) to about 375-400F. Use a candy thermometer to make sure the oil is the right temperature.
  8. Once the oil is at a consistent temperature, carefully pick up the dough strips, with your fingers, one at a time and carefully add to the oil. Be sure to only place 2-3 dough strips in at a time -- or the crowding will cause the temperature to drop (and that makes soggy churros and no one wants that).
  9. Fry the dough for 2-3 minutes until golden brown. Remove from the oil with tongs onto a paper-towel lined plate.
  10. While still hot, roll the churros in the cinnamon-sugar mixture. And you're ready to eat!

I’m not sure what is going on but this is the second recipe I’ve gone through and the dough is extremely thin. It’s not dough at all, more like funnel cakes.

I’m not sure what’s going on either, when I make this the dough is very thick and has to be forcefully pushed through the star tip. Maybe check your measurements again? Sorry that is happening for you!
